So who and what is the District?
In 1937, President Roosevelt recognized the need to authorized a nationwide mandate to install at least one local conservation district in each county to help combat the problem of erosion that resulted in the Dust Bowl.
Created Dec 30, 1949, the Josephine Soil and Water Conservation District was second of two districts assigned to Josephine County. Since that time, the districts have broaden their scope and developed partnerships to assist landowners with any natural resource concern. Josephine SWCD gets its leadership from Oregon Department of Agriculture and is responsible for the conservation of natural resources within the district boundaries. Although associated with ODA, we are a non-regulatory technical assistance based organization, making our job of helping you, the landowner, simple and at no cost.
